Set up by The Gillitt Foundation as a fund raising charity to assist, primarily, vulnerable registered charities for those who have movement impairment.
In exceptional circumstances, to help in times of crisis. April 2020: we went into exceptional circumstances mode and became a feeding scheme and will remain this way until the crisis subsides.
With the pandemic and lockdown, the economic fallout meant families lost their jobs. Before long, they were unable to fund food on the table. A range of socio- economic groups have been brought to their knees. Those who were on low incomes were impacted immediately as they had no buffers. Almost all those we have helped, should have had assistance from the state in the form of UIF, but had not/ and many still as at February 2021, have not received it. Some 1/3 received the Covid help. The others did not despite us helping them to apply. In May we were feeding 900 and 750 families in alternate weeks. We also assist a group of elderly people who normally had meagre pensions supplemented by their families. With families out of work, or on reduced incomes, they became and remain, very vulnerable.
We have very low infrastructure costs unlike most charities as we are volunteers. Any funds donated go to where they should… a food parcel for a family in crisis. All the families we assist were supporting themselves before lockdown. We cover them until they have their first salary and in a few cases have been able to assist them getting a position.
Please help us help these families as they are in crisis through no fault of their own.
